حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ جَبَلَةَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ، يُحَدِّثُ قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنِ الْحَنْتَمَةِ . فَقُلْتُ مَا الْحَنْتَمَةُ قَالَ الْجَرَّةُ .
Jabalah reported: I heard Ibn 'Umar narrating that Allah's messenger (ﷺ) had forbidden (the preparation of Nabidh) in the pitcher besmeared with pitch. I said to him: What is Huntama? He said: It is a pitcher (besmeared with pitch).

حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، حَدَّثَنِي زَاذَانُ، قَالَ قُلْتُ لاِبْنِ عُمَرَ حَدِّثْنِي بِمَا، نَهَى عَنْهُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مِنَ الأَشْرِبَةِ بِلُغَتِكَ وَفَسِّرْهُ لِي بِلُغَتِنَا فَإِنَّ لَكُمْ لُغَةً سِوَى لُغَتِنَا . فَقَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنِ الْحَنْتَمِ وَهِيَ الْجَرَّةُ وَعَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَهِيَ الْقَرْعَةُ وَعَنِ الْمُزَفَّتِ وَهُوَ الْمُقَيَّرُ وَعَنِ النَّقِيرِ وَهْىَ النَّخْلَةُ تُنْسَحُ نَسْحًا وَتُنْقَرُ نَقْرًا وَأَمَرَ أَنْ يُنْتَبَذَ فِي الأَسْقِيَةِ .
Zadhan reported: I said to Ibn 'Umar: Tell me in your own language and then explain it to me in any language because your language is different from our language (about the vessels) in which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) has forbidden (us) to drink. He said: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) has forbidden (the preparation) of Nabidh in Hantama and that is a pitcher (besmeared with pitch), in gourd and that is pumpkin, in the varnished jar, in hollow stump and in wooden vessels. This Naqir is the wood of date-palm from which the vessel is fashioned out or hollowed out, but he commanded us to prepare Nabidh in waterskins.

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْخَالِقِ بْنُ، سَلَمَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ، يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ، يَقُولُ عِنْدَ هَذَا الْمِنْبَرِ - وَأَشَارَ إِلَى مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم - قَدِمَ وَفْدُ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَسَأَلُوهُ عَنِ الأَشْرِبَةِ فَنَهَاهُمْ عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالنَّقِيرِ وَالْحَنْتَمِ . فَقُلْتُ لَهُ يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ وَظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ نَسِيَهُ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ وَقَدْ كَانَ يَكْرَهُ .
Sa'id b. Musayyib reported: I heard 'Abdullah b 'Umar saying this near the pulpit while pointing towards the pulpit of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ): A group of the tribe of 'Abd al-Qais came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and asked him about (vessels) which might (be used for preparing Nabidh and) drinking in them. He (the Holy Prophet) forbade them (to use) gourd, hollow stump, vessel besmeared with pitch. I said to him: Abu Muhammad, (what about) varnished jar? and we think he had forgotten to mention the word 'varnished jar". Thereupon he said: I did not hear it from him on that day, i. e. from 'Abdullah b. 'Umar, and he hated that (i. e. preparation of Nabidh in gourd).

قَالَ أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ وَسَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنِ الْجَرِّ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ وَالنَّقِيرِ . وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا لَمْ يَجِدْ شَيْئًا يُنْتَبَذُ لَهُ فِيهِ نُبِذَ لَهُ فِي تَوْرٍ مِنْ حِجَارَةٍ .
Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade (the preparation) of Nabidh in green pitcher, in varnished jar, in hollow stump, and when Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) did not find anything to prepare Nabidh in that (i. e. waterskin), it was prepared for him in a big bowl made of stone.

Jabir reported that Nabidh was prepared for Allan's Messenger (ﷺ) in a waterskin, but if they did not find waterskin it was prepared in a big bowl of stone. One of the persons and I had heard from Abu Zubair that it was Biram (a vessel made of stone).

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، - وَاللَّفْظُ لاِبْنِ أَبِي عُمَرَ - قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الأَحْوَلِ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عِيَاضٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ لَمَّا نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنِ النَّبِيذِ فِي الأَوْعِيَةِ قَالُوا لَيْسَ كُلُّ النَّاسِ يَجِدُ فَأَرْخَصَ لَهُمْ فِي الْجَرِّ غَيْرِ الْمُزَفَّتِ .
'Abdullah b. 'Amr reported that when Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade (the preparation) of Nabidh in vessels, they said all the people cannot (afford to have) them. He (the Holy Prophet) then granted them permission (to prepare) Nabidh in a green pitcher, but not in those besmeared with pitch.
Every intoxicant is Khamr and all Khamr is Haram
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ، عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنِ الْبِتْعِ فَقَالَ " كُلُّ شَرَابٍ أَسْكَرَ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ " .
'A'isha reported: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was asked about Bit'i, whereupon he said: Every drink that causes intoxication is forbidden.

وَحَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى التُّجِيبِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنِ ابْنِ، شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَائِشَةَ، تَقُولُ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنِ الْبِتْعِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " كُلُّ شَرَابٍ أَسْكَرَ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ " .
'A'isha reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was asked about it, whereupon he said that everything that causes intoxication is forbidden.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ كُلُّهُمْ عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ، بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ صَالِحٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، قَالاَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، كُلُّهُمْ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ وَلَيْسَ فِي حَدِيثِ سُفْيَانَ وَصَالِحٍ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْبِتْعِ وَهُوَ فِي حَدِيثِ مَعْمَرٍ وَفِي حَدِيثِ صَالِحٍ أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " كُلُّ شَرَابٍ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ " .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Zuhri with this chain of transmitters but in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Sufyan and Salih (these words are not found)" she was asked about Bit". (These words are found in the hadith) transmitted on the authority of Ma'mar and in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Salih (only these words are found) that she (Hadrat 'A'isha) had heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) say: Every intoxicating drink is forbidden.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ، - يَعْنِي الدَّرَاوَرْدِيَّ - عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ، غَزِيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً، قَدِمَ مِنْ جَيْشَانَ - وَجَيْشَانُ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ - فَسَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنْ شَرَابٍ يَشْرَبُونَهُ بِأَرْضِهِمْ مِنَ الذُّرَةِ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْمِزْرُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم " أَوَمُسْكِرٌ هُوَ " . قَالَ نَعَمْ . قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ إِنَّ عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَهْدًا لِمَنْ يَشْرَبُ الْمُسْكِرَ أَنْ يَسْقِيَهُ مِنْ طِينَةِ الْخَبَالِ " . قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَمَا طِينَةُ الْخَبَالِ قَالَ " عَرَقُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ أَوْ عُصَارَةُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ " .
Jabir reported that a person came from Jaishan, a town of Yemen, and he asked Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about the wine which was drunk in their land and which was prepared from millet and was called Mizr. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) asked whether that was intoxicating. He said: Yes. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Every intoxicant is forbidden. Verily Allah the Exalted and Majestic, made a covenant to those who drank intoxicants to make their drink Tinat al-Khabal. They said: Allah's Messenger, what is Tinat a]-Khabal? He said: It is the sweat of the denizens of Hell or the discharge of the denizens of Hell.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الْعَتَكِيُّ، وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ خَمْرٌ وَكُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ وَمَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَمَاتَ وَهُوَ يُدْمِنُهَا لَمْ يَتُبْ لَمْ يَشْرَبْهَا فِي الآخِرَةِ " .
Ibn 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Every intoxicant is Khamr and every intoxicant is forbidden. He who drinks wine in this world and dies while he is addicted to it, not having repented, will not be given a drink in the Hereafter.

وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ كِلاَهُمَا عَنْ رَوْحِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ خَمْرٌ وَكُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ " .
Ibn 'Umar, through another chain of transmitters; reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) having said this: Every intoxicant is Khamr and every intoxicant is forbidden.

وَحَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ مِسْمَارٍ السُّلَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْمُطَّلِبِ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Musa b. Uqba with the same chain of transmitters.
Every intoxicant is Khamr and all Khamr is Haram
وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، - وَهُوَ الْقَطَّانُ - عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، أَخْبَرَنَا نَافِعٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ وَلاَ أَعْلَمُهُ إِلاَّ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ خَمْرٌ وَكُلُّ خَمْرٍ حَرَامٌ " .
Nafi' reported Ibn 'Umar as saying: I do not know this but from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) who said: Every intoxicant is Khamr and every Khamr is forbidden.
The punishment of one who drinks Khamr if he does not repent from it: he will be denied it in the hereafter
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فِي الدُّنْيَا حُرِمَهَا فِي الآخِرَةِ " .
Ibn 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who drank (wine) in this world would be deprived of it in the Hereafter.
The punishment of one who drinks Khamr if he does not repent from it: he will be denied it in the hereafter
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ بْنِ قَعْنَبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ " مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَلَمْ يَتُبْ مِنْهَا حُرِمَهَا فِي الآخِرَةِ فَلَمْ يُسْقَهَا " . قِيلَ لِمَالِكٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ .
Ibn 'Umar said: He who drank wine in the world and did not repent would be deprived of it (the pure drink) in the Hereafter. It was said to Malik: Is this hadith Marfu'? He said: Yes.
